Pioneer Spirit - Then and Now

Celebrate the arrival of the first pioneer settlers to the Salt Lake Valley! The Days of '47, Inc. remembers Utah's early pioneers with a variety of events beginning in February with nominations for the Pioneers of Progress awards (due January 22nd), through an all-day extravaganza on July 24th, a state-wide holiday, and culminating with the Rodeo finals that evening. Bring your family and friends to the 2010 festivities. Most are free!

NOTE:  Our Pioneers of Progress nomination process is in progress and the deadline has been extended to Friday, February 5, 2010.  Please click here to learn more about this stellar event and to obtain a nomination form.

We are thrilled to present The Days of '47 Rodeo at The E Center in West Valley City beginning Monday, July 19th, through Saturday, the 24th, 2010.  All performances are at 7 pm.  Visit our Rodeo website at www.daysof47rodeo.com for more information.

The Parade on July 24th starts at 9:00 am. To aid you in reaching the Parade, the route map is attached here, and the lineup map is attached here.

NEW for 2010:  With appropriate authorization from The Days of '47, Inc., vendors will be allowed for the first time to make sales or distributions along the Youth Parade route on July 17th.  The permit application processing for the Youth Parade, and also the main Parade as in prior years, will begin during May.  No sales or distributions along either parade route are allowed without the permit and badges issued by The Days of '47, Inc.

The Days of '47 framed original artwork by Eric Dowdle

The original artwork for the 2008 and 2009 Days of '47 celebrations were rendered in acrylics by Eric Dowdle. His work perfectly captures the spirit of those years, featuring our July 24 Parade in 2008 and our Rodeo in 2009.  Each work depicted a host of Utah celebrities, Days of '47 volunteers and some significant historical figures.

Mr. Dowdle, one of the pre-eminent American Folk Artists today, is a long-time Utah resident. His work is known worldwide and he has painted for recipients as diverse as former LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley, Garth Brooks' charities and large corporations. Some of his most well-known works include Salt Lake City, Noah's Ark, Chicago's Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, the Augusta Golf Course, New York City and San Francisco.

The Days of '47 original for 2009 measures approximately 19 inches by 25 inches and is beautifully framed in the highest quality wood framing. It is for sale by contacting The Days of '47, Inc.  All proceeds from the sale will benefit our non-profit organization.  Commissions for original artwork of this size by Mr. Dowdle are typically much more expensive than the sale price for this painting.
